Antonella Scarpa-Isles

Cheltenham
I'm a painter living and working as an artist in Cheltenham since 2019, although for many years before that I lived near Bath and was part of as well as Company secretary for Bath Artist Printmakers .

My paintings are born from memory, drawing inspiration from locations I've visited or revisit often. Each painting begins  with a spark of recollection, it may be a photo or a sudden thought, when I start painting it evolves organically, often diverging from the original source; layers  of earlier versions remain beneath the surface, invisible yet integral, giving each piece depth and resonance.

For me, the finished painting is not a single moment frozen in time but a tapestry of transformations, each stage still present, still felt, even if invisible. each image is both a place that exist in reality and my imagination, offering viewers a sense of presence shaped by unseen history.
