Concepts My work is rooted in photographic and lens based techniques and includes video and computer manipulation as well as some more obscure ways to make images. Much of my work is a response to the presence of the human in the landscape (regardless as to whether humans are portayed). The Stones Remain, (pub. Rider) on megalithic sites of Britain was such a case in point, with not a single human depicted, and yet it was about man's lasting legacy in the landscape. Through techniques of making photographic works on paper and stone and cloth, my work of conveying the presence of people through marks and landmarks took a different direction with my personal response to two major buildings on London's south bank - the GLA and the European HQ of Ernst and Young. Here, although the name on the building was Foster, each monument was made of a billion actions by many whose names are not recorded. Moving on again I have looked at what it is humans most desire and concluded that it is to be remembered. Each memorial that is erected to the memory of another commemorates that whatever the contribution each one had a life and it was a life that was lived.
