Graeme Reed

Ashbourne
Artist; Illustrator; Printmaker

Graeme Reed’s artwork predominantly explores the genre of portraiture, but the specific qualities of his fictionalised characters is often deliberately confusing. They appear to seek both our approval and our condemnation, ‘fitting in’ but ‘standing out’ at the same time.

In a recent series of screenprints, teasingly titled ‘Misfits of the World Unite’, he playfully juxtaposes brazen posturing with fashion insecurities, and awkwardness. They are often surprising and sometimes menacing.

He uses fashion magazines, and his own drawing and photography as starting points for screenprints, but with such a rich art history to draw upon, he’s able to plunder a broad range of historical sources to inspire ideas.

Graeme has exhibited widely contributing to a number of mixed exhibitions. Recent highlights include, Ty Pawb Print International 2021, RBSA Print Prize Exhibition, Art of Music Exhibition Lancaster, ‘Love Letters’ at Gallerytop Rowsley and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.
