Bettina Amtag
My work is an ongoing investigation into ways in which one can represent visually transient and immaterial sensations, such as thoughts and feelings, or aspects of a psychological condition, such as anxiety, melancholia, mourning, but also happiness. It touches on the areas of the idyll, the miracle, and the uncanny with an underlying interest in stories and illusions/delusions.
My process is rooted in sculpture, although this may not always be obvious in the final outcome, which can take diverse forms sculpture/installation, film and photography. Recently, the outcome has often been textiles based wallhangings, which sit somewhere between 2d and sculpture. I also print and I produce drawings at all stages of a project to assess, re-assess and develop.
