Hove
I'm an artist and mentor based in Hove at 106 Studios. I'm not currently represented and am enjoying a very experimental practise which is introducing me to lots of different approaches to making work.

I use my practise to try and make sense of my place in the world as an artist, woman, mother and widow. It’s an attempt at a kind of personal anthropology in which I pull in photography, memory, imagination and sensual responses to materials and my environment to create new realities.

These realities take the form of paintings and drawings which emerge through an enmeshing of line, visceral  colourful paint application and often raw pigments amongst other materials. Not wanting to be bound by the constraints of a geometric frame I often mould canvas edges with size or slice it up into amorphous shapes. This creates tactile surrounds which encapsulate specific moments or time capsules. Start points for these works are family analogue photography, automatic responses to lived experience and sensory recollections. I see making work as a transformative act of liberation and acceptance of trauma and grief, creating and projecting a new vision for human experience. An act of reverence for mortality and rebirth.
