Cian Donnelly
I stage the self as hallucinatory cabaret, blending spoken word, stand up, song, and storytelling.
I work with themes of grief, transformation, and memory as magic.
I also make records, collages, paintings, and drawings.
But mainly, I like talking and singing.
Lived Experience
Most of my professional life I lived in Belfast. Then I moved to Rome and started a family, got a full-time job. My masks, costumes, and art stuff went out on the balcony. Most of it melted the first summer in Rome.
I never stopped making work. Though I did stop going to openings, and badgering people to show my work.
More recently, maybe 2022, I got a new job, teaching art. I took some steps back in to the art world. Making performances in peoples' homes, and doing a shed load of writing.
Long may it continue.
