Emma Bolland

Sheffield
I am an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and educator.

I practice across sculpture, installation, painting, text, performance, drawing, sound, and moving image. I write across disciplines, both academically and creatively, and have translated screenplays from French to English. I think about materiality, memory, magic, the sensory affect of institutional architecture, distance, and time. I value the metaphysical properties of the materials I use, often employ a sci-fi methodology, and take pleasure in the labour of my making and writing processes. I co-edit, (with Rachel Smith), the publishing project intergraphia.

Lived Experience

I live with the aftermath of a spinal injury and have lived experience of being institutionalised. My work is sometimes informed by my disabilities, but is never about them.
