Helen Grant
Helen Grant uses a variety of means and materials to produce wryly humorous objects and paintings. Her practice is intentionally erratic, veering between untidy abstraction and cartoon-like representation. She is interested in the absurd, and in the relationships between comedy and pathos, colour and form.
Alongside her practice Helen co-runs Test Space, a roving artist-led exhibition project, and works as an artist facilitator. She was one-third of the notorious collective Back in 5 Squad who “made your eyes and ears burn”.
Helen spent December 2024 in residence at The Launderette Gallery in Bristol working on her Never Done project and exhibition. During this she hosted several drop-in sculpture workshops for women of a certain (r)age. She has also recently had work selected for ‘and you would have to believe it’ Critical Edge Collective at Copeland Gallery, London; Phony, Brighton; Future Flags, Pennant Place, Florida USA; Baggage Claim, Staffordshire Street Gallery, London and Winter Sculpture Park, London. In 2022 she was an artist in residence at Espacio Lavadero, Granada, Spain.
