Manchester
I am an interdisciplinary lens based artist, writer and lecturer whose current bodies of work have been concerned with popular culture, humour and taboo.

I am an interdisciplinary lens based artist, writer and lecturer whose current bodies of work have been concerned with popular culture, to date I have focused on the medium of Television and it’s influence upon our daily experiences, this has been as video works, audio, posters, installations and art multiples.

As a writer I was the radar arts editor for Flux Magazine and freelanced for numerous art publications.

My practice has shifted towards playwriting (as JT CHAVEZ) and photography, I have had several successful live performances, including Cherry & the Ox a play focusing  on the Kearton Brothers the first wildlife photographers. I have also begun a new series of works that explore the self portrait through the history of the photoshoot, streotypes, taboo and humour in art.

I continue to work on collaborative writing projects that couple my interest in television with the experiences and realities of the life of the creative practitioner.

I am interested in the changing approach to critical theory and practice within BA courses, in particularly Photography. I have investigated the different approaches in the field of critical theory & practice and how this sits within a practice based degrees, exploring teaching approaches that enhance the relationship between the two areas and how this can be used to create transferable skills [such as students gaining confidence articulating their practice within a broad critical premise to future clients and peers] also how students can assess and resolve complex ideas.

I have been a member of Rogue Artists Studios for over a decade, Rogue is currently the largest professional contemporary art studio in the North of England.
