Maria Kuipers
I love the mysteries of painting abstract and what can unfold in front of me. My intention, always, is to be flexible and playful in my approach. I aim for integrity, to achieve a 'presence' in my work, expansiveness and a quality beyond what I can see. I'm continually searching for something new and exciting.
In 1990 my life radically changed when I had a powerful spiritual encounter and when a deep desire to paint was awakened within. In 1998 I graduated with a Fine Art BA 1:1 and continued with Post Graduate Courses as well as winning several awards with my painting and Art Projects in the Community.
I have exhibited over 20 years across the UK in Galleries, Open Houses, additionally in the Health & Art arena and leading Art & Well-being Workshops with Creative Future and in the Community. I have now returned to painting full time.
My aim is to work with the unconscious and like the Surrealist's approach of expression, my paintings embody 'states of being', references to the invisible world and an expression of the unknown. Ultimately I aim for spiritual 'presence' and hope that the viewer will be drawn inside my paintings.
Recent influences can be attributed to Abstract Expressionism and artists such as Roy Oxlade, William Crozier and contemporary painter, Basil Beattie, amongst others.
