Max Vollmer

Leeds

Vollmer's work grows out of his experiences of living now in the 21st century in a troubled, uncertain world, with the awareness of living in a Europe that grew out of violence and calm, and in a country in which he did not grow up: an advantage, as it enables him to perceive life here as well as in his own country with the unaccustomed eyes of a stranger. Hence political aspects – taking 'political' in a wide sense – inform most of his more recent work: questions of power, of knowledge, of ethics in art and art practice. An edited transcript of a discussion with Vollmer about these questions has been published at https://artandpower2008.wordpress.com/artist/ .
