Lived Experience
Robert Dawson, born New York City, childhood in Geneva and Rome. Now lives in London where he runs his studio, Aesthetic Sabotage.
Attended City and Guilds of London Art School 1972/73, then went on to study telecommunications and worked as a radio officer on merchant ships for 11 years.
Quit merchant shipping to study art, including ceramics and painting at Camberwell College of Arts, BA, 1990/93, and an MA at the Royal College of Art 1997/99.
1993 to 2015: Creating large-scale architectural ceramics for building façades, as well as designs for the ceramics industry, including Wedgwood, Habitat and Ceramica Bardelli.
Since 2015: mostly making clay paintings that react to the processes, appearances and histories of painting, ceramics, and the decorative arts.
Acquisitions by 22 public collections, including The V&A; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Mass; The British Council; The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Tx.
