Simon Fenoulhet

Cardiff
Artist working with light, making work for exhibitions and to commission.

My work is concerned with the poetic transformation of ordinary domestic materials. Using furniture, cutlery and other familiar objects, I create installations that offer paradoxical alternatives to our objective reading of the material world. Recently I've been working with light to render objects in new ways using projection, lasers and light transmitting plastics.

I studied fine art at both Newport and Cardiff colleges of Art, gaining a Masters Degree in 1987. I have worked throughout Wales as an artist, exhibition organiser and public art consultant. From 1991-02 I was Deputy Director of Cywaith Cymru Artworks Wales, the national organisation for public art. From 2011-13 I was Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Wales Newport until the course was closed. I am now working freelance as an artist, teacher and art consultant mainly in Wales.
