Victoria Burgher

London
Victoria Burgher is an artist whose practice-based, interdisciplinary PhD research at the University of Westminster uses porcelain to interrogate ideological and material whiteness

My practice-based, interdisciplinary PhD research at the University of Westminster uses porcelain to interrogate ideological and material whiteness from an explicitly anti-racist position. My practice is largely sculptural, underpinned by thorough contextual research and sensitive response – to spaces, situations, objects and contexts. Commodities of colonialism are used to highlight the legacy of imperial exploitation on our contemporary world. A sense of place and personal identity are engrained in this ‘decolonial’ approach to making.
