Acts of Transfer

By  Katy Beinart 2021 - 2022
A collaboration between artist Katy Beinart and writer Lizzie Lloyd, this project uses image and text to reactivate past socially engaged art projects, making visible their legacies to better understand their ongoing effect. Beinart and Lloyd worked with 9 artists and project participants to revisit an artwork. Through ‘re-enacting’ the original work they reflect on the meaning of the work, how the memory of it shifts, and what both artists and participants have taken away from it. These re-enactments are led to a series of short films, images and texts documenting the conversations Beinart and Lloyd have held with each artist/participant. The project worked with artists: Gil Mualem-Doron, Young In Hong, Eelyn Lee, Paula McCloskey and Sam Vardy, Harun Morrison, Benjamin Owen, Matt Stokes, Sophie Warren and Jonathan Mosley. And project participants: Bernadette Buckley, John Edwards, Kate Flannery, Lynn Hanna, Marion Howell, Sarah McCarthy, Annetha Mills, Mark Anthony Pearce, Chris Welton. Funded and supported by Arts Council England, the Centre for Spatial, Environmental and Cultural Politics at the University of Brighton, Phoenix Art Space, Brighton Centre for Contemporary Art, SEAS, and the University of the West of England. The Acts of Transfer book is now available to buy from Brighton CCA: https://brightoncca.art/product/acts-of-transfer/ Publication Design and Art Direction by Des Lloyd Behari.
