Animal Kingdom is an arrangement of images objects and books collected together to communicate both a creation and a restoration story.
There are two pictures of white rhinos at the top of the installation as I was inspired to make this piece after having read about the incredible work that extinction biologists are doing to bring back white rhinos through IVF methods with surrogate grey rhino mothers.
I think that there are many important stories that don't get enough mainstream media attention around how we are trying to restore natural habitats and protect endangered animals as well as in the case of the white rhino attempting to reverse the damage that has been done and bring back an entire species.
Despite all the atrocities that are still being committed today on a humanitarian and an environmental level there is also a commitment and a wonder to help to restore and rebuild our world, and if we are entering a period or age of restoration and redemption this feels like a positive direction of travel that requires further energy and consideration.
Animal Kingdom is part of my Housework series were I create installations around the house with my own collections of objects, they also exist in the gallery setting but are made initially at home.
