Ariadne Seven

“Ariadne Seven” has a small labyrinth suggested at its centre resulting in a denser form than its predecessors. A liminal space maybe found beyond the patterns or within it. The painting is a contemporary response the Myth of Ariadne: in reworking decorations of Minoan pots [Heraklion Museum] accidental suggestions of sea creatures have emerged. The painting is purposefully confusing and intentionally untidy; it is painterly in parts but possibly the original decorators of Cretan pots would still recognise their designs.
