Automatic Change Giver

Based on the classic ‘coin pusher’ arcade machine that features throughout much of the exhibition ‘Automatic Change Giver’ explores the value a simple 2p coin can be imbued with when utilised for play. The title, borrowed from an arcade change machine, suggests the transformative quality that play, and wider ‘fun’ experiences can have, changing mood and outlook. Moulded in ceramic from hand-made   originals via simple sprig moulds the coins have a playful quality, both in scale and material. They become oversize tokens representative of their transformation from small denomination currency to charged game-piece.
