Beech leaf installation

This installation was made at the Panorama gallery in Barcelona. It began with a walk, on the Col de Jau in the French Catalan Pyrenees. It was also made in response to a particular gallery space (intimate, enclosed, high walls, no daylight), and its location within dark narrow medieval streets, in the middle of the city. Through it's appeal to the viewers senses - the smell of the leaves, the sound of them swishing, their colour, their texture and feel - it evokes each individuals associations with woods, whether actual or literary (Shakespearean woods, children's stories, fairy tales. . . )
