Bloodlines is a biro drawing on watercolour paper of a family tree where everyone is represented by their favourite plant or flower that relates to some personal meaning or symbolism about them. The tree is also extended out to close friends that I consider to also be my family. Some on the tree are no longer alive, others are symbolised by their flower names and some areas of the drawing show a sense of distance as people have moved to different countries. It also portrays a type of personal social history as at the top of the drawing every house I have ever lived in and other significant buildings are also included. The drawing also has a Portuguese feel of azulejo tiles as half my family is in Portugal and I have included a red carnation which is a very important symbol in Portugal as it relates to the 1974 revolution, a strong symbol of freedom
