Conference

Coat hangers are bent so that they stand up by themselves. These are arranged on the floor. From some views the curl at the top of the hanger reads as a head, a flock of birds or a group of people half caught in some fleeting movement. Light falling on the work highlights only one part of hanger giving that line a particular emphasis: arms, legs, noses depending on your position. From the rear the work looks like a net, a network with each cell also reading as a mouth, many mouths flowing forward, flying by, becoming more bird-like as they pass. And again from side views the coat hangers appear mangled whilst from others they appear poised, almost well groomed. There is a sense of a gathering, a conference, a dance, a fleeting event. The breakup of the shapes is like time lapsed movement or a trace of something passed, past. The whole of the work is barely there, almost visibly invisible, a virtual event.
