Dark Sky

Dimensions
175 x 90 x 59

This sculpture has been created for the exhibition Wander_Land at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens. The exhibition title suggests a journey or pilgrimage and one of the ways finding your way, was by celestial navigation. My sculpture ‘Dark Sky’ recognizes this and also the remarkable sky of Cornwall such as the West Penwith International Dark Sky Park. This sculpture is hollow with an aperture the shape of the outline of Cornwall on one side with a lunar hemisphere on the other. The dark interior is pierced by multiple pinpricks creating a myriad of stars and an astronomical object that some viewers may be able to perceive for themselves. The sculpture is made of recycled materials including paper and wood.
