Fairhaven Bubbles

By  Steve Messam 2012
A series of bubbles on the 1920's boating lake at the seaside town of Lytham St Annes, Lancashire. The bubbles floated in, on and above the lake - the flying bubbles filled with helium. Each bubble was custom built and ranged from 2m to 3.2m in diameter. Exhibited for 16 days, Fairhaven Bubbles was designed to interfere with the landscape views of the lake and add focal points to an otherwise feature-free vista creating new sightlines and encouraging regular visitors to see the familiar environment in a new way. 'Fairhaven Bubbles' was commissioned by Lancashire County Council and project managed by Mid Pennine Arts
