Fix It There, is a series of wall-based artworks presented as part of Copy Out a New Shoot; a solo exhibition of new works made in response to objects in Leicestershire Museums Collections.
Taking botanical artefacts from the collection as starting points for thinking about ideas of production and reproduction, Copy Out a New Shoot comprises works in ceramic, wax, plastics, image and audio. Honing in on artefacts designed to teach, describe or demonstrate, the works in the exhibition focus on how to differentiate between one thing and another, and how to know physical things.
Fix It There comprises photocopies of a set of hand-painted plates depicting varieties of pondweed, with laser cut gold 3M privacy screen overlays that shift colour and transparency with movement of the viewer, and bespoke inlaid acrylic frame fronts that mask text information. The work aims to consider the different knowledges created as information is translated through formats and processes of copying, and how this information can be distributed and accessed.
Listen to ‘Store Guide‘, an artwork that borrows the exhibition guide format, with tracks to be activated in front of works across the space.
