Gadfly Eight aims to balance reciprocating spirals and questions to what extent colour or tone dominate perception . The “grouting” colour changes according to adjacent colours and creates another dynamic. The painting plays with figure/ground confusion whilst the basic drawing continues the relationship of the series to ancient Gorgoneion mosaics.
