Inner Realities

Inner Realities reflects on the ambivalence between life and death, exploring the fragile space where the desire to disappear can coexist with the longing to live. Following the death of my sister when I was twelve, I spent years navigating depression, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and psychiatric hospitalisation. During that time, life and death were not experienced as opposites, but as intertwined emotional states that continuously shaped my perception of the world.

The work does not seek to represent death itself. Instead, it examines the psychological threshold between surrender and survival, despair and hope, silence and expression. Through sculpture and performance, invisible mental landscapes become embodied, giving form to psychological tensions, embodied memories, vulnerability, and the persistent human impulse to seek connection despite suffering.

Rather than presenting healing as a linear resolution, Inner Realities embraces contradiction. It proposes that darkness and light, fear and desire, grief and joy can exist simultaneously within the same body. The performance becomes an act of inhabiting this tension, where remaining present is itself a gesture of resistance.

By materialising these inner realities, the work invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences of vulnerability and resilience, suggesting that the space between life and death is not solely defined by mortality, but by the continual negotiation of what it means to choose life, again and again.
