Junk Mail Postman

Dimensions
180 x 40 x 45cm approx

This life-size sculpture of a postman is made from junk mail. The sculpture was created for BBC1’s ‘That’s Britain’, which aired live at 8pm on Wednesday 23rd November 2011. Michelle was invited to do something with the nearly 800 pieces of junk mail collected for the programme over three weeks by twenty households in Stoke Newington. This illustrates the quantity of paper that is wasted on unsolicited advertisements.

Recycled sculpture. One of two large kinetic sculptures produced during 'Art of Waste', a Year of the Artist residency. A makeshift studio was set up in a shipping container at Freeman's Common Community Recycling Centre, and the sculptures were made from objects sourced from the household waste available at the site.
