Kanzen a temporary sculpture created in 2013, at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Based on the original wood carving 'Kanzen', made in 2006.
Meaning completeness in Japanese, ‘Kanzen’ is a simple form, textural sculpture. Constructed using wattle an daub methods with cornish rab.
Initially the mud was a wet and smooth texture, until drying and cracking in the sun. Subsequent rain started washing away the upper areas of material.
An organic feminine form, the sculpture reflects on how simplicity and a down to earth connection to nature can bring a sense of happiness and completeness in life.
