Laid to Rest

By Deborah Gardner 2012
Laid to Rest 2012 part of the 'Curious' cemetery trail, West Norwood Cemetery, London This sculpture acts, in part, as a memorial to all those that may have been refused burial in consecrated ground because they died through suicide. This sculpture refers to a story relayed to me of a man who walked deep into a winter woodland to lay down and die in the snow. Held within an enclosure of miniaturised trees, this work speaks about the ability for sculpture to give a tangible means of commemoration.
