Law of Diminished Returns

By  Andrew Revell 1993
Installation of recombined and re-fabricated government file boxes From the Portuguese Tax Office, created on an artist exchange program between Bristol's Artspace (Spike Island) and N.A.V.E Oporto in 1993. The sculpture was made on site at the Quinta Terreirinha, above the Douro River, although unintentional at the time (I was was unaware quite what I had scavenged!) the re-use of bureaucratic file boxes in such a large dynamic sculpture proved very popular and resonated with the recent memory of the Salazar dictatorship among my Portuguese colleagues and public.
