“Meltdown “

By Tim Pugh 2022
The artwork is a drawing of a melting ice cream cone, sketched out on a boulder at South Beach,Whitehaven,West Cumbria. I used pencil to draw out the outline and then filled in the drawing with industrial pebbles scratching and rubbing in the pigment into the sandstone boulder. The non natural pebbles originate from a spoil tip from a former nearby beachside colliery . The drawing is a visual metaphor for global warming and in particular, the melting icecaps and I used this traditional beach image to convey a sense of impending acceleration of the climate crisis.
