Morass

The figures in my piece are drawn in a morass of contour lines. They recall the complex navigation both sexes (and those in between) take to negotiate human relationships. My practice is centred on identity and belonging and I am interested specifically in labelling – how individuals perceive, categorise and relate to others. Recently my thinking has focused on gender. This was prompted by the increased reporting of violence towards women during the pandemic and the rise of the #metoo movement. These are difficult subjects and made me consider how relationships reach these critical points.
