"Mr Pound of Peasedown School, he was immaculate, his shoes did shine like the glass bottle didn't they, he said however poor you are you can be clean and he said you can put polish on your shoes and he said if you have a hole it can be mended, it don't mean to say cos you haven't got a lot of money that you have to go in rags or anything it can be mended or darned and he made sure you were like that. He would have you up in front of the class and show you up."
