My Aunt Pen with portrait of her great great Uncle John Richmond by his father George

By  Elly Clarke 2010

Elly Clarke

Part of the George Richmond Portrait Project, where I am tracing portraits by British Portraitist George Richmond (1809-1896) to private homes in order to photograph them and their current owners (descendants of those portrayed) in situ. I am also conducting audio interviews with them about what they know both of their ancestors and the portraits. George Richmond is my great great great grandfather and a member of the William Blake led group 'The Ancients'. His sitters include writers, politicians, members of the aristocracy, royalty, Quaker philanthropists, scientists, artists, critics and many private commissions. Famous sitters include Charlotte Bronte, William Wilberforce, Edward VIII, Elizabeth Fry, John Ruskin and Charles Darwin.
