This is redesign of a piece first commissioned by Light Waves Light festival in Salford Quays and Glow RHS Bridgewater. First inspired by The Anthropologist Robin Dunbar. His theory states that we are only able to maintain relationships with 150 people at any one time according to our neocortex size. Since then the internet has exploded our global connections and made us a global community. On redesigning this work, new research has emerged that shows that the connections/environment we are surrounded by can activate and deactivate our genes - the building blocks for life. The DNA strand seemed the right choice for structure, adorned with small balls that hold images that people send in to represent themselves. Community represented within the DNA structure, flickering on and off.
