I made this pencil and paper study drawing of the extraordinary tree growth I discovered clinging to the edge of a mine shaft not far from my first Cornwall studio below Sancreed Beacon. Despite the high levels of toxic tin mining waste the tree in its own way seemed to be thriving. For me it highlighted the power of nature.
