Out of the Box: Archive Residency

The 2016 'Out of the Box' residency with selected artist Simon Fenoulet explored the Glamorgan Archives’ utilitarian conservation machinery , which included a ‘box making machine’ and ‘light wall’. and vast collection of diverse historical material held in their purpose-built building in Cardiff. The residency was hosted by the Archives, supported by Warp and Made in Roath and facilitated by Art Shell. During his eight week residency Simon explored the Archives’ material and made sensory responses to the collection. The Out of the Box residency formed a conversation between the artist, the Archives and it’s resources, the Archives staff, the public and other artists. A programme of activities was designed around the residency, including a tour of the Archives and a talk, with the aim of opening up the Archives and extending their reach and visibility.
