'LAST RESORT' from the 'Space Interrupted' Exhibition, Fort Brockhurst, Hampshire. English Heritage, Arts Council England. Autumn 2015. Six artists drawn to Fort Brockhurst to make site responsive installations inspired by fortifications, history and archives. Interrupting and overlapping space, layering and fragmenting imagery, disrupting function and meaning. Curated by Clare Sheppeard. About the works: The physicality of creating these 'paperscapes' forms a bond to their located site. Each copied image is machine stitched to its neighbour, each piece handled by the artist and installed utilising situations within the cell at Fort Brockhurst. A small protruding nail, an air vent, a hook on the window - the intimacy of knowing esoteric corners of the location - once undisturbed now claustrophobic with the energy of thought and intervention. The nature of paper and the fine thread drawing through the space of each cell add to this vulnerability of time. Lisa Traxler 2015
