"Petro-Chemical"

By  Tim Pugh 2021
The beach installation was created at South Beach,Whitehaven,West Cumbria in February 2021.The artwork was created in response to the ongoing concern about huge amounts of plastic being washed up on Cumbrian beaches and its associations with the petrochemical industry involved in the manufacture of plastics.I used sea coal from a nearby defunct colliery location to depict an industrial tower and substituted the smoke emissions with beach plastics gathered from the tideline. The installation refers to concerns about increasing uses of finite resources and industrial capacity being used to manufacture ever increasing amounts of plastic despite calls to curtail the use of plastics.
