Petti-fur-coat

A woven form made from a shredded fake fur coat, constructed into a steel wire warp. The two straps support the piece from the ceiling and the hem rests on the floor. The piece begins as a coat, but changes into a petticoat, playing on the idea of public and private self. The materials and shape indicate a 'strung-up' animal skin. The original labels are left whole, for proof that it is not real fur. Purchased by the Contemporary Art Society Special Collection Scheme on behalf of Nottingham Castle Museum with funds from the Arts Council Lottery, 2003.
