Psyche # 4 abstracts nuances obscured by the figuration in narrative painting. It refers obliquely to Psyche Served by Invisible Spirits by Luca Giordano and the practice of visualizing the invisible which painting reveals. In turn that work refers to Apuleius’s story of Cupid and Psyche. This painting attempts an allusion to amber vessels that feature in the story.
