Re-Cognitions portrait composite series, for 'Photo-ID: Photographers and Scientists explore Identity', CAN '09, 2009
Starting points for the 'Re-Cognitions' portrait series were Facial Recognition software systems using composites of a single person within varying conditions for more accurate identification. In connection with this, I became interested in the idea researched by psychologists that we recognise people we are familiar with by matching an internal layered composite constructed by the brain. The Re-Cognitions series aims to suggest embodiments of these internal psychological portrait composites.
