Sad Panda

Sad Panda was a winning piece created for a Grayson Perry competition. Inspired by the Victorian Birth, Life and Death exhibition in York Castle Museum, Sad Panda is hand built using a combination of stoneware clay slabs and coils. Sgraffito patterns were inspired by the coffin embellishments and funeral flowers. She has been finished with decals of personal family wedding photos. At the time of the competition, I had miscarried my baby, and subconsciously I poured my grief and anger into the work.
