Sands of time

By James Eddy 2024 - 2025

“Sands of time”, was a place specific sculpture about St.Ives bay, it was exhibited both on the Towans and at a nearby cafe.

The bay and the Towans are steeped in thousands of years of history, both human and natural. The sculpture aims to reflect this history and the lives of people who live here now, ‘living sands’.

If the Towans could speak what would they say??

Slightly exposed steel armature hints at the various archeology, which can be seen partially exposed around the sand dunes.

As I was making the pieces he realized that the sculptural form mimics that of an hourglass when the sand is literally just running out. A photograph of a moment in time….
