Strange Truths

By  Anna Masters 2015
'Strange Truths' creates a helix design from rose petals, heather buds and a variety of vintage butterflies. The helix design refers to Chaos Theory, and aims to create a sense of force and movement from these static and delicate materials. The works are created using a network of clear nylon grids, creating the illusion that the butterflies and petals are suspended mid-air. These grids are built up in layers, giving the works a sense of depth. The butterflies are sourced from old and unwanted entomology displays, for the most part obtained through auction. Though this means that there may be imperfections with the specimens, the butterflies’ histories add to the story and integrity of the work, referencing change and the passing of time.
