This was a collaborative project with Perpendicular exhibited at The Stone Space in Leytonstone, London Dec 2014-jan 2015
During the long and darkened winter months we often crave being able to spend time outside in green garden spaces.
This installation is a secluded space filled with the sounds and scent that we often associate with gardens or woodlands.
A space that contrasts with the cold environment outside, Take your time invites you to walk in, stop, sit and experience the calm and warmth of a green space, You are welcome to stay for as long as you desire or indeed continue to visit as you would any other outside space throughout the duration of the exhibition.
The collection of fabric cones hanging within the gallery allow you to walk through the space as though you were experiencing a woodland or slightly overgrown garden. These structures hang at varying heights creating an illusion of elevation and suspension.
The Cones have been made from pure cotton using plant extracts such as nettles collected from Epping Forest to dye the fabric creating varying shades of green.
As you navigate through and around there will also be a scent that fills the air and sounds that we associate with the outside world.
Sounds from the garden will quietly filtered into the gallery to create an entire sensory experience whilst encountering the space and bring a sense of the garden inside.
All materials have been locally sourced or collected the sound was recorded in the Epping forest during the spring and summer months of 2014.
Fabric was chosen as it gives a certain element of fluidity to the overall aesthetic quality.
There are details within the construction of the works such as the imperfections within the fabric the stitching the over layering of the sewn lines these are all integral to the visual language.
