Temples

By  Robert Foster 2016
Laboratory-grown bismuth, painted windowsills. For Horizon at Roaming Room, London, UK, I created a series of interventions inspired by my research into alchemy and the languages and gestures of Esotericism. The objects presented were intended to act as fragments, or clues, that at first may seem incidental, but over time and continued study would allude to these practices often deemed unsubstantiated. I selected and arranged materials to evoke a sense of intrigue and to stimulate investigation into the enigmatic formal, conceptual and symbolic references that inspired the creation of the works. Through the act of collecting and re-presenting objects capable of communicating hidden meanings, I hoped to refer to the transformative potential of the artistic process, as well as form a dialogue around specialised systems of knowledge and the manner in which information is collected, ordered and decoded.
