Using as a starting point the story of Niobe, the work explores ideas of loss and grief within families, particularly as a consequence of war and conflict. The form is both house and tomb, being loosely based on Cyrus the Great's tomb, Iran. The House is Black is the name of a short film by female Iranian poet Forough Farrokhzad.
