The Ineluctable Modality of the Visible

Shown as part of the Yoolysees Exhibition curated by Lucy Brennan Shiel at The Electro Studios Project Space, St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex Proteus is a monologue that takes place on Sandymount Strand and the opportunity offered by the location of the gallery to follow a digital James Joyce to a physical beach via a videoed augmented reality was too good to pass. So I present, an augmented reality journey to the beach, following James Joyce in the shadow of Stephen Dedalus; casting digital objects into the physical world, and questioning our own sense of reality. “Every life is in many days, day after day. We walk through ourselves, meeting robbers, ghosts, giants, old men, young men, wives, widows, brothers-in-love, but always meeting ourselves.” (Ulysses, James Joyce)
