THE SCREAM, UPDATED Site specific Installation, 2023 Stainless steel mesh, plastic, wire, netting,4 ratchet straps, light for shadow.
'The Scream, updated' is an installation which references Edvard Munch's famous painting 'The Scream'. Whilst the original work was a 'scream of nature', I update it to reference the tragic loss of lives in migration attempts by people worldwide. 'The Scream, updated' is louder in it's shadow than the object (mouth). The ratchet straps pulling open the mouth reference lorry straps, in which people smuggling takes place across borders.
Conceived as a memorial for lives lost in migration, this installation is a gesture for people to connect in their own way from their positions and claim the space for expression, solidarity and sharing through gatherings and events. The installation can be hung site specifically on the ceiling or against the wall.
